Chugai Pharmaceutical joins the Yokohama Waterworks Bureau’s ‘Water Source Eco Project (W-eco'P)’

Social Contribution Local Communities Environment

The Chugai Pharmaceutical Group regards the conservation of the global environment as a crucial foundation supporting all business activities, and actively promotes efforts to minimize its impact on the global environment.

Water is not only an important raw material for pharmaceutical production, but also an indispensable resource for a sustainable society. We aim to contribute to the establishment of a healthy water circulation system. We have been implementing water source conservation activities through forest maintenance since 2019 in Kawanehoncho, Haibara-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture, which serves as the water source for our Fujieda plant, and since 2022 in Yokoze-machi, Chichibu-gun, Saitama Prefecture, which serves as the water source for our Ukima plant.

Expanding upon these efforts, Chugai Pharmaceutical concluded an agreement with the Yokohama Waterworks Bureau (Director: Shuichi Yamaoka) in Yokohama, where the Chugai Life Science Park Yokohama (commenced operations in April 2023) is located, on “Water Source Eco Project (W-eco'P)” in March 2024. W-eco'P is an initiative led by the Yokohama Waterworks Bureau in collaboration with companies and organizations to maintain the water source forests owned by the city of Yokohama in the village of Doshi, Yamanashi Prefecture. Its purpose is to nurture rich forests that produce clean water and pass on these resources to future generations.

The Chugai Pharmaceutical Group aims to contribute to the preservation of abundant water resources shared with communities living in the watershed by not only practicing the careful use and proper treatment of water in its business activities but also by continuously maintaining the forests that nurture our water.
