Human Rights
- Respect for human rights
- Safety of patients and clinical trial participants
Basic Approach
Promoting initiatives as a company
involved in life and
health
At Chugai, we declare our respect for human rights in the Chugai Group Code of Conduct (CCC), which are based on our shared Core Values. This is because we believe that a culture of respect for human rights is indispensable for a highly productive company where employees can work comfortably, and a cornerstone for a company to be recognized as a member of society and to earn trust.
Based on the recognition that Chugai has a responsibility to respect the human rights of all people in society involved in its business activities, we, as a company in the healthcare industry with deep involvement in people’s lives and health, are promoting measures with a greater awareness of respect for human rights.
Initiatives
Based on the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, we conducted interviews with relevant departments and, based on the results of these interviews, we assessed the risks using two evaluation axes (severity, probability of occurrence) and identified important human rights issues in the following five areas and are working to respect human rights.
- Patient safety
- Personal information and privacy
- Human rights in the supply chain
- Human rights of employees in the workplace
- Access to healthcare
When developing a pharmaceutical product, clinical trials are conducted to determine its safety and efficacy. Chugai conducts rigorous clinical trials with high ethics and scientific properties, paying close attention to ensuring safety and respecting the human rights of clinical trial participants in accordance with global standards.
We also provide in-house training on respect for human rights in order to build a corporate culture in which diverse individuals recognize their individual values and respect diversity.
