The Chugai Pharmaceutical Group regards the conservation of the global environment as a crucial foundation supporting all business activities and actively promotes efforts to minimize its impact on the global environment.
Under the “Mid-Term Environmental Goals 2030”, Chugai has set targets in three areas: climate change countermeasures, sustainable resource utilization, and biodiversity conservation, and various departments are collaborating as a company-wide effort to achieve these goals.

At the same time, to ensure a sustainable approach to environmental challenges, it is essential to foster a corporate culture that encourages environmental initiatives possible only with Chugai Pharmaceutical and empowers employees to explore and take action through their daily activities. To help each employee view environmental initiatives as a personal responsibility and actively engage in solving environmental challenges, we established the employee-led environmental awareness team, “Eco Innovators”, in April 2024. As of November 2024, 316 employees have voluntarily joined this initiative, contributing their efforts to the “Eco Innovators” team.

In May 2024, they held the “Eco Senryu” poetry contest. In August, they hosted an “Ocean Acidification Workshop” to highlight the issue of ocean acidification, and in September, they conducted a “Biodiversity Workshop” while cleaning up waste on the shoreline. In October, they organized the “Nihonbashi River SUP Cleanup”, where participants paddled on stand-up paddle boards (SUP) near our headquarters in Nihonbashi and collected waste from the river using nets.

Looking ahead, Chugai plans to expand its initiatives beyond hosting environmental events. Future activities will include contests to recruit innovative environmental ideas from employees and the launch of long-term sustainable projects.

The mission statement of Chugai Pharmaceutical places putting patients first by “prioritizing the health and happiness of every patient” as its core value. This principle is deeply embedded in the daily work of all employees. I wanted to convey the idea that by considering the health and happiness of the Earth in the same way we do for our patients, each employee can feel a closer connection to the planet and translate that feeling into meaningful action.
