Digital Innovation Lab (DIL) is an initiative that involves all employees and aims to achieve business improvement and create new value through the fusion of business and digital technology.
At DIL, we promote projects that utilize digital solutions to address business challenges that contribute to our growth strategy “TOP I 2030,” while developing digital talent within the company and improving our in-house development capabilities.
Through an always-accessible idea platform, we facilitate cross-functional collaboration beyond departmental boundaries. By adopting service design methodologies and a user-centered development approach, we are working to create innovations that bring substantial transformation to society and business.

Platform for human resource development: CHUGAI DIGITAL ACADEMY

CHUGAI DIGITAL ACADEMY (CDA) is a comprehensive program established to systematically develop in-house digital talents such as business architects and data scientists. The program provides a full range of content including e-Learning, practical exercises through group work, on-the-job training, and assignments to actual projects. Furthermore, through external training programs, human resource exchange, and collaboration with universities and research institutions, we aim to enhance skills and experience in pharmaceuticals and digital technology. By giving back to society the knowledge, skills, experience, and mindset of “pharmaceuticals × digital” that our company has acquired, we strive to form an ecosystem of digital talent.

Chugai Cloud Infrastructure(CCI)

Chugai has built Chugai Cloud Infrastructure (CCI) as a common company-wide digital IT platform to support the Enhancing the R&D domain through digital utilization and improving productivity across the entire value chain.
By centralizing infrastructure functions in a multi-cloud environment, we promote standardization, strengthen security governance, and efficiently manage integrated operations.
It is a digital IT foundation that covers both the Scientific and Enterprise domains and underpins all value chains.

Digital Compliance

Chugai Pharmaceutical is promoting “Digital Compliance” as an initiative to comply with various laws and regulations associated with the utilization of human-derived data, particularly clinical and genomic data, in innovative new drug discovery using digital technology. Led by the company’s internal information management group, they address laws such as the Personal Information Protection Act, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other country-specific regulations, research and development regulations, ethical guidelines, and laws concerning intellectual property protection, providing operational support for appropriate data utilization.

Smart Factory

Under the concept of “Transform production operations with digitalization to increase productivity and add high value to human capital,” we aim to link and optimize people and operational data in the following areas: 1) Planning, 2) Direct operations, and 3) Indirect operations. In the first step, we established a digital infrastructure to support new operations at the Ukima Plant as a model case. We will validate each measure for expansion to other production sites.

DCT

We are promoting Decentralized Clinical Trials (DCTs), which differ from conventional clinical trials that rely on patient visits, as an initiative to reduce the burden of hospital visits for patients participating in clinical trials and shorten the drug development period. DCTs utilize digital technologies such as online medical consultations, eConsent, and wearable devices.

Generative AI

We are advancing the introduction and development of generative AI, which can create new value in R&D and dramatically improve efficiency across the company’s entire value chain, by establishing a promotion development system and a generative AI platform.
