Effluent Monitoring Initiatives Using Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) Testing

From the perspective of biodiversity conservation, Chugai began implementing Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) testing in 2013 to comprehensively understand and assess the impacts of business-site effluent on aquatic organisms and the effects of chemical substances contained in wastewater. The Company has conducted WET testing once annually for 11 consecutive years. In 2024, WET testing was conducted once again at all domestic plants and research facilities, and the results confirmed that there were no issues.

Through experimental workshops and science education programs, the BIO LAB provides opportunities to foster interest and awareness in biotechnology as well as water cycle and environmental education among the next generation, who will play a key role in shaping future society. Participants discussed actions they can take for the future of the planet and deepened their understanding of challenges related to the water cycle.
