Support for Regular Classes for Children with Disabilities

Social Contribution Inclusive Society Para-Sports

Chugai is promoting various initiatives toward realizing a society where people can live healthily and true to themselves alongside diverse individuals, regardless of disability, gender, or other factors. One such initiative is supporting regular sports programs that provide children with opportunities to enjoy physical activities regardless of disability. These include "CP Adaptive Sports Class" by Center Pole (CP), "HAS School" by HOKKAIDO ADAPTIVE SPORTS (HAS), and "Everyone's Dance Class and Performances" by Japan Adapted Breaking Association (JABA).

These regular classes allow children to continuously enjoy various activities such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair softball, and dance. They also provide opportunities to develop communication skills, self-expression, and self-management through interaction with others. This report presents the results of a survey conducted with participants of these three organizations' classes in fiscal year 2024, aimed at measuring the impact of such activities on children.

[Survey Results]

  • Total number of classes held: 58 (January 2024 - March 2025)
  • Number of class participants: 987 (includes duplicate counts of the same participants)
  • Survey respondents: 42
  • Activities: Wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair softball, marathon, skiing, dance, etc.

*Note: This survey was conducted with the cooperation of Center Pole (CP), HOKKAIDO ADAPTIVE SPORTS (HAS), and Japan Adapted Breaking Association (JABA). Although each organization implements different programs, the questions were standardized for aggregation.
*Note: Survey respondents were primarily children with disabilities. Due to program characteristics, some responses (4) from non-disabled participants are included.
*Note: Some responses were written by parents on behalf of their children.

The survey results showed that approximately 80% or more of the participating children felt positive changes in themselves across all questions. We have received feedback such as "After trying new challenges, I gained new courage," "Being able to do more things led to increased confidence," and "I gradually became able to consider others' perspectives."

These results suggest that providing regular exercise opportunities not only creates physical activity opportunities but also positively influences children's independence, autonomy, and social skills. We expect that our company's continued support for such initiatives will contribute to realizing an inclusive society in the future.

Chugai will continue to support children with disabilities in developing diverse perspectives through interactions with various people and creating opportunities for social participation.
