Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. proudly served as a special sponsor of the 10th National Floor Volleyball Chura-Shima Okinawa Tournament for Schools for the Blind, held in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, from August 19 to 20, 2026. This marks the third consecutive year of Chugai's support for the tournament.

Floor volleyball is an inclusive sport designed to enable people with visual impairments, including those who are blind or have low vision, to participate alongside sighted individuals. Players in the front row compete while wearing eye masks, while back-row players utilize their remaining vision, creating an environment where communication, mutual trust, and teamwork are essential for success.

Throughout the tournament, moments of complete silence, as players listened carefully for the sound of the ball, alternated with energetic communication among teammates. This unique combination highlighted the importance of cooperation and mutual support, captivating both participants and spectators alike.

More than 40 high school students from across Okinawa participated as volunteers in the operation of the tournament. Through supporting event management and interacting with athletes, the students gained valuable opportunities to deepen their understanding of diversity and inclusion while reflecting on the importance of building a society in which people support one another regardless of differences.
Many volunteers commented that they were inspired by the athletes' high level of skill, determination, and strong sense of teamwork. Their experiences demonstrated how sports can foster mutual understanding and create meaningful connections among people from diverse backgrounds.

Chugai Pharmaceutical remains committed to helping build a healthier and more inclusive society by creating opportunities for all people, regardless of disability, to participate fully, realize their potential, and thrive.
