Support for Dance Classes and Competitions for Children with Disabilities
Expanding Possibilities Through Dance
Chugai Pharmaceutical is committed to supporting initiatives that expand possibilities for people with disabilities. In 2025, we once again sponsored the "Dance Class and Recital for Everyone" and "UNIQUE ZONE Breakin" organized by the Japan Adapted Breaking Association (JABA). These activities aim to create opportunities for people with disabilities to express themselves through dance and take on challenges together with their peers.
Dance Class and Recital for Everyone
This program, organized by JABA, is an initiative that provides continuous dance experiences for children with disabilities. Lessons are tailored to each individual's characteristics, creating a space that fosters not only the joy of movement but also self-expression and communication skills. In the 2025 fiscal year, a total of 699 participants took part through 18 classes held throughout the year and a recital held in December. The experience of practicing with peers and showcasing their achievements greatly boosts the children's confidence and motivation to take on challenges.
UNIQUE ZONE Breakin
This competition, held at the Nagai Sports Center for the Disabled in Osaka, is a breaking (breakdance) competition exclusively for people with disabilities. Breaking is a culture that values originality, and participants showcase free movements that leverage their individuality. In 2025, 75 participants competed in two categories—solo battles and 2-on-2—and the venue was filled with tremendous energy. Such events serve as catalysts for generating new goals and motivation to challenge oneself among participants.
In fact, a young dancer who started dancing and began competing in competitions as a result of this event achieved the remarkable feat of placing third in the world in the same category as non-disabled dancers at the "DANCE WORLD CUP (DWC)." Mr. Takahashi, Representative Director of JABA, states, "The fact that talent born from an inclusive competition achieved results on the international stage alongside non-disabled dancers demonstrates that dance, compared to other sports, has fewer barriers between genres and is a culture where people with diverse physical characteristics can compete on equal footing."
Chugai Pharmaceutical will continue its support, aiming to expand possibilities for people with disabilities and realize a society where everyone can thrive and play active roles.
