Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD) is one of the designated intractable diseases in Japan, affecting an estimated 6,500 patients1, of whom 90% of cases are women. In NMOSD, the central nervous system, including the brain, optic nerves, and spinal cord, become repeatedly inflamed. Limiting recurrence with appropriate treatment is important, as the disease can result in a reduced quality of life, including blindness and impaired motor functions.

Chugai has decided to conduct a disease awareness campaign using “Sugisapo walk,” an app for recording step counts, and the “T Healthcare.” an app for healthcare.

Overview of initiatives

Using the “mission function” of “Sugisapo walk” and “T Healthcare,” where app users can earn miles by answering quizzes and simple questionnaires, we will conduct a disease awareness survey and a treatment awareness/satisfaction survey according to the following schedule.

• Disease awareness survey by questionnaire (distribution period: 9/7 to 20)
• Survey questionnaire on awareness and satisfaction of treatment methods (distribution period: 10/5 to 18)
  * Both surveys will be conducted upon obtaining the consent of users.

In order to deepen the understanding of NMOSD among more people, we will continue to implement disease education activities using this initiative.
