Adoption of Sustainable Electricity at the Head Office and Fujieda Plant (Preparing to achieve a mid-term environmental goal of a ratio of sustainable electricity of 100% by 2025)
The Chugai Group has established mid-term environmental goals to be achieved by 2030 and is continuously promoting environmental conservation activities in order to help realize a sustainable global environment. We have identified climate change countermeasures as one of the material items, which is the most critical global theme. Therefore, we have set a goal of reducing our emissions of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO2) by 60% to 75%. By adopting sustainable electricity that is not generated by emitting CO2, we aim to make all the power procured for our business activities 100% sustainable (i.e., a sustainable electricity ratio of 100%) by 2025.
As of April 2022, almost all the electricity used on the floors of the head office building that we lease is effectively sustainable*1. Starting in August 2022, the entire electrical usage of the Fujieda Plant also became effectively sustainable. The facility now utilizes only the environmental value-added electricity provided through the Miraiz Green Denki*2 hydroelectricity program.
Sustainable electricity is being adopted at our other business sites as well.
Promoting the Switch to Sustainable Electricity (Preparing to achieve a mid-term environmental goal of a ratio of sustainable electricity of 100% by 2025)
Through these efforts to purchase sustainable electricity and promote energy that is effectively renewable, the Chugai Group’s sustainable electricity ratio for 2022 is expected to be approximately 83%.
Going forward, we will continue to promote sustainable electricity use, in addition to power saving and efficiency improvement at all of our sites including domestic and overseas affiliates.
