Chugai Sponsors Lab Class for Girls: “Diving into Unseen Mysteries”

Learning the Fun of Science through Experimentation

On Tuesday, August 7, Chugai sponsored a lab class held by the Yokohama Association for Promotion of Gender Equality.
This lab class focused on elementary school girls in the hopes of teaching young women how fun science can be.
The class welcomed 20 girls in the fourth through sixth grades, who conducted experiments involving carbon dioxide (CO₂).
With an instructor’s guidance, they verified the existence of CO₂ using their own breath and dry ice, experimenting with creating soap bubbles that stay aloft and rockets using dry ice. They finished by making their own foaming bath salts, which they took home with them.
It was impressive to see the serious expressions on the children’s faces as they worked, and follow-up comments included, “I want to learn more about CO₂,” and “The soap bubbles that do not fall were interesting!”
