
October 26, 2005 (Tokyo) - Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. [Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President Osamu Nagayama (hereinafter, Chugai)] announced today that its Kamakura Plant (Kamakura-shi, Kanagawa) obtained the certification in compliance with a quasi-international standard for occupational health and safety, OHSAS (Occupational Health & Safety Assessment Series) 18001 on October 24, which was the first certification within all Chugai sites. Coincidentally, Kamakura Plant received the certification to the international standard for environmental management system, ISO (International Standard Organization) 14001.
OHSAS 18001 was developed by an international consortium as the standard to define requirements for occupational health and safety management system, the goal of which is to minimize risks as well as to avert future ones by establishing the risk management system.
Chugai aims to organize an environment whereby its employees can work in safe and better conditions by establishing systematic health and safety programs in order to prevent occupational injuries, diseases and accidents as well as to minimize damages.
Certification of OHSAS 18001 granted this time means these initiatives at Chugai comply with the quasi-international criteria.
Also, ISO 14001 certification granted this time to Kamakura Plant is additions to the existing certifications to all other production sites, now completing the full ISO 14001 coverage by all Chugai production sites.
Through the implementation of OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001, Chugai is committed to achieving zero accidents, promoting environmental protection initiatives and continuing to supply high quality pharmaceutical products.
